101 Holiday Decorating Ideas - Part 14

Red Wreath

The garden might appear sparse in winter, but there's much beauty to be found, gathered, and then enjoyed indoors. Before the garden's first frost, florist Carolyn Gregg gathers and then dries crimson cockscomb (Celosia) to glue on a grapevine wreath. This wreath is by Carolyn Gregg Flower Design.

Evergreen

Welcome visitors with a handmade evergreen wreath on the front door. This one by Minna Mercke Schmidt is constructed from moss, ivy, and eucalyptus wired into a frame.

Pinecone Tree

Create a pinecone tree on a cone-shaped foam base. Anchor the base in a container, then wire the cones onto 2" wooden floral picks. Insert picks downward into the foam, starting at the bottom with the largest cones and working to the top with the smaller ones. Conceal the foam by tucking sheet moss among the pinecones.

Wreaths on Shelves

To make a simple holiday wreath, wrap green florist's wire around the ends of boxwood clippings to form five or six small bunches. Wrap the bunches around a wreath base with more wire so that they overlap. Use the wreaths to decorate shelves and punctuate with jewel-toned ornaments or other trinkets.
