Blue Room Ideas - Part 3

Blue Accents

This California home got to have crisp white walls ("Whisper" by Dunn-Edwards) and color, too, thanks to bookcases backed in vivid blue (similar to "Fantasy" by Olympic) and a fireplace clad in tiles by Ann Sacks. The living room's Quatrine sofa sports a family-friendly slipcover. The rattan wing chairs are from Mecox Gardens, and the coffee table is actually a vintage wicker trunk.

Kids' Room

The boys' room in this Vermont country home feature custom bunks that were designed with extra storage—drawers and shelves—in mind.

Bright Idea: Use a nautical bulkhead light to illuminate a tight spot on the cheap. ($12.97; homedepot.com)

Homework Desk

A built-in recess in a Maryland farmhouse was made into a homework area in this girl's room. A pink vintage mirror adds depth and light, and a blue-and-white chair livens up the desk.

Bedroom Furniture

A hand-painted folding screen from the 1950s stands behind a circa-1810 chaise in the master bedroom of this 1840s upstate New York house. Of her eclectic approach, the owner explains, "I don't like things to look too decorated."

Bright Idea: A comfy featherbed softens a structured chaise.
