Decorating with Flea-Market Finds

North Carolina interior designer Lynn-Anne Bruns instilled a love of flea-marketing in all four of her children, then got the kids’ help decorating at home—to endearingly playful effect.

Ceramics

New dishes share shelf space with estate-sale ceramics, including a McCoy cookie jar and an apple-shaped container by hazel atlas. The room’s walls wear Benjamin Moore’s Wythe Blue.

Kitchen

Lynn-Anne Bruns splurged on custom kitchen cabinets, but chose limestone counters—which offer the look of marble for less. Her son Alec kicks back in a Thonet chair from a secondhand shop.

Living Room

In the living room, a sofa by Barbara Barry for Baker—marked down 75 percent at an outlet—faces a 1960s chair, scooped up on consignment for $75.

Bedroom

Alec decorated his room with old soda bottles ($5 for all) and an Eames-style chair purchased at a garage sale. The wall-mounted desk cost $60 at Ikea.
