DIY Tea Towel Runner

Bring a no-fuss attitude to the table with these easy and inexpensive runners.

Look for 20"-wide striped tea towel fabric from a discount fabric store (you can also find gingham and plaid patterns). To determine the length of your runner, measure the width of your table and then add 12". Use a measuring tape and shears to cut the fabric. Tea towel fabric doesn't fray easily, so you can leave the edges raw. But if you prefer a more finished look, fold under 1" of fabric on the cut ends and stitch a simple hem by hand or with a machine. Lay the runners width-wise on your table so they can do double duty as place mats.

DIY Nautical Rope Railing

Instill some maritime charm by installing a sailboat-inspired rope banister.

To make the banister weight-bearing, source brackets and fittings and use one well-affixed bracket for every meter of rope. Get instructions to do this project.

DIY Knotted Drawer Pulls

Contrast a sleek mid-century modern bedside table with handmade twine pulls in lieu of hardware.

Cut approximately 6" of twine per handle or pull, feed the ends through the centre hole of a hardware backplate and knot tightly behind the drawer face. For a polished look, secure a second knot in the loop of twine in front of the drawer.
